Individual Nutritional Consult

Thank you for your interest in working with Desert Nutrition RD.

Before we schedule an initial nutritional consult, it’s important we get to know each other. We encourage every client to start with a free discovery call to see if we are a good fit. We want to know your goals and also to review a few things before our first meeting.

At the moment, individual nutritional consults are only available via telehealth services (telephone or video appointments).

How to Pay for Your Visit

There are multiple ways to pay for your individualized nutritional consult.

Medical Insurance

  • Medicare Part B:
    • Medical nutrition therapy (MNT) is covered by Medicare for diagnoses of diabetes, non-dialysis chronic kidney disease (GFR less than 50) and 36 months post kidney transplant.
    • A referral for MNT is needed from your physician
    • Medicare covers 3 hours of MNT the initial year of referral and up to 2 hours of MNT for subsequent years. Hours are based on calendar year and cannot be carried over from year to year.
  • Superbill/Out of Network Benefits:
    • At the moment we are only in-network with Anthem Blue Cross.
    • If you have out-of- network benefits you might still be able to get reimbursed by your insurance company for our services by submitting a superbill or by requesting an exception.
    • Insurance benefits for nutrition education and counseling vary from plan to plan.
    • You can contact your insurance member services to find out if you have out-of-network benefits that will cover part or all of the cost of your visit and if there are any deductibles that need to be met. Our team can provide you with key questions to make during the call.
    • We will provide you a superbill at the completion of your visit.
  • Cash or Card (HSA/FSA)
    • You can use your health savings account or your flexible spending account to pay for your visit.
    • We use Square to take your payment, its safe and easy to submit payments.

Service Breakdown

  • Initial Consultation: $120 (1hr)
    • Nutritional assessment and lifestyle evaluation
    • Nutrition education and medical nutrition therapy
    • Interpretation of nutrition-related laboratory values
    • Action plan setting
    • Follow-up email with after visit summary
    • Resources
  • Follow-up appointments: $60 (30 – 45 min)
    • Monitor and evaluate progress
    • Adjust action plan and/or create new action plan
    • Reinforcement of previous education
